MLA Saryu Roy Calls for Extended Budget Session in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur East MLA advocates for a 20-day state assembly budget session, citing the need for thorough financial debate.

Saryu Roy demands longer budget session and economic white paper from Jharkhand government.

JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur East MLA, Saryu Roy, has appealed to the state government for an extension of the upcoming budget session to 20 working days to allow for comprehensive discussions on departmental allocations and financial matters.

Roy criticized the proposed eight-day budget session for 2024-25 as insufficient, highlighting the importance of this session in debating the financial positioning and allocations for various state departments.

Emphasizing the session’s significance as the last of the fifth assembly before Holi, Roy argued for a detailed review of past accounts and a more extended period for deliberation, suggesting that the session should last at least 18 to 20 days.

The MLA also pointed out the logistical constraints within the proposed eight-day session, noting that after accounting for a condolence motion, budget presentation, and supplementary budget debate, only five days would remain for detailed discussions.

Roy advocated for the government to follow the central government’s example by presenting a white paper on the state’s economy, reflecting on the precedent set in 2020-21 when the current administration issued an economic white paper upon taking office.

This call for a more extended budget session and the presentation of a white paper aims to ensure transparency and thorough scrutiny of Jharkhand’s financial management and future economic planning.
