JAMSHEDPUR – Under the directives of Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal, a District Water and Sanitation Committee meeting was held at the Collectorate auditorium. Chaired by ADM Law and Order Aniket Sachan, the meeting reviewed the progress of various components under Phase-2 of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) and discussed the targets for the financial year 2024-25.
Progress and Goals Discussed
State MIS Coordinator delivered a detailed presentation on the mission’s progress, focusing on separating solid and liquid waste, proper disposal mechanisms, and leveraging resources through convergence with the Departments of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Panchayati Raj, and Rural Development. Officials emphasized the importance of achieving ODF Plus status, which involves maintaining Open Defecation Free (ODF) status and implementing comprehensive waste management practices.
Directives for Faster Implementation
ADM Sachan directed officials to expedite work on constructing sanitation structures under the 15th Finance Commission’s Tide Fund and MGNREGA schemes. Field inspections and physical verification of all ongoing projects were mandated to ensure adherence to timelines and quality standards.
Focus on Six ODF Plus Components
Key objectives include sustaining ODF status, managing solid and liquid waste, promoting Gobar-Dhan initiatives, handling plastic waste, ensuring menstrual hygiene, and improving fecal waste management. Panchayats were encouraged to expedite the construction of segregation sheds at the village level.

The meeting was attended by ACMO Dr. Jogeshwar Prasad, District Public Relations Officer Panchanan Oraon, District Education Officer Manoj Kumar, District Education Superintendent Ashish Pandey, executive engineers from Jamshedpur and Adityapur’s drinking water departments, block development officers, and other key stakeholders.
