SERAIKELA – A pivotal meeting on water conservation and community participation was held on December 26, 2024, at the Collectorate Auditorium under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla. The session highlighted the urgent need for collective action to address the growing water crisis.

Focus on Water Preservation

During the meeting, DC Shukla underscored the critical link between water and survival. He remarked, “The availability of potable water is declining rapidly. It is essential that we work together to conserve and manage this precious resource.” Discussions revolved around the importance of water conservation, with all departments urged to ensure their active participation.

The DC directed departments to raise public awareness through various means and outlined measures to encourage rainwater harvesting and preservation.

Strategic Initiatives Proposed

Deputy Commissioner Shukla emphasized creating a district-level action plan to assess water availability, supply, and storage. He also instructed officials to build soak pits near all hand pumps and water towers to optimize groundwater recharge.

Key attendees included Assistant Collector Kumar Rajat, Executive Engineers of Minor Irrigation and Building Construction, and other district officials from fisheries, agriculture, and statistics departments.

Commitment to Long-Term Sustainability

The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen water conservation efforts through community participation and strategic planning. Officials reiterated the importance of implementing sustainable practices to combat future water challenges effectively.
