JAMSHEDPUR – A horrific accident occurred near Bhilai Pahadi on National Highway-33 in the MGM police station area when a gas tanker collided head-on with a dumper, resulting in the tanker driver’s death after the vehicle’s cabin caught fire.
The deceased has been identified as Nirale Nidav, 32, while dumper driver Bhadhri Manjhi, a resident of Chandil, sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the collision happened as the gas tanker, heading from Ghatsila to Jamshedpur, swerved into the opposite lane to avoid a car and crashed into the dumper coming from the opposite direction.
The impact caused the tanker’s cabin to catch fire, trapping the driver inside. Firefighters arrived promptly and extinguished the blaze, but the driver could not be saved.
Fortunately, the gas tanker was empty, averting a larger disaster. The collision caused the dumper’s load of crushed stones to spill onto the road, blocking traffic temporarily.
Police, with the help of fire department personnel, cleared the debris and moved the vehicles to the side, restoring the flow of traffic.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the accident while urging drivers to maintain caution on highways, especially at night.
