MEDININAGAR, PALAMU – In a proactive move to prevent illegal cash flow and election-related malpractices, Palamu district authorities seized ₹8.9 lakh from a car on Sunday evening at a checkpoint near Nawabazar police station, along National Highway 98.

The car, traveling from Hariharganj to Medininagar, was stopped around 5:30 p.m. as part of intensified vehicle checks initiated ahead of the first phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections scheduled for November 13.

Nawabazar Police Station Officer Chintu Kumar confirmed the cash seizure, stating that static surveillance teams have been deployed at multiple checkpoints to monitor all passing vehicles closely.

The car’s occupant, identified as fruit wholesaler Ustaz Ansari, claimed that the amount represented collections from various shopkeepers.

Authorities have seized the cash for further investigation, and a case has been registered to determine the legitimacy of the funds.

The district administration has set up these checkpoints to curb unaccounted cash flow, ensuring fair conduct during the election period.
