DHANBAD – During a routine vehicle check at the Dhanbad-Bokaro border, police seized Rs 71.97 lakh in cash from an SUV.

The operation was conducted at the Telmocho inter-district checkpoint, near the Damodar pool, as part of heightened vigilance for fair elections.

The police, led by DSP Purushottam Kumar Singh, stopped an Innova vehicle that attempted to flee after seeing the checkpoint.

Once the vehicle was apprehended, a thorough search revealed the cash hidden in the trunk and other compartments.

The vehicle, with registration number JH 10 BY 9655, was traveling from Bokaro to Dhanbad when it was intercepted around 1 a.m.

The occupants of the car claimed to be businessmen, giving conflicting information about their locations, sometimes stating Ranchi, sometimes Bokaro.

After seizing the cash, which totaled Rs 71.97 lakh, the matter was handed over to the Income Tax department for further investigation.

An IT team has reached the Mahuda police station to question the vehicle’s occupants and examine the source of the cash.
