Former two-time legislator joins party ahead of Jharkhand polls
Key Points:
• Janardan Paswan nominated as LJP(R) candidate for Chatra
• Ex-MLA joins party, receives symbol from Chirag Paswan
• NDA alliance finalizes seat-sharing for Jharkhand elections
CHATRA – Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) announces former MLA Janardan Paswan as its candidate for the Chatra assembly seat in upcoming Jharkhand elections.
Virendra Pradhan, LJP(R) Jharkhand state president, confirmed Paswan’s candidacy.
The party’s supremo, Chirag Paswan, personally handed over the election symbol to Janardan Paswan.
Paswan’s political career includes two terms as Chatra’s MLA, representing different parties.
He won the seat in 1995 as a Janata Dal candidate and again in 2009 with RJD.
However, Paswan faced defeat in the 2014 elections against BJP’s Jaiprakash Singh Bhokta.
The Chatra constituency is reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) candidates.
Its political landscape is influenced by its proximity to Bihar.
Currently, RJD’s Satyanand Bhokta holds the Chatra seat and is a minister in the state government.
Bhokta is ineligible to contest from Chatra this time due to changes in his caste classification.
The NDA alliance has finalized its seat-sharing arrangement for the Jharkhand elections.
BJP will contest 68 seats, while AJSU Party, JD(U), and LJP(R) will field candidates in 10, 2, and 1 seats respectively.
