Kerala Samajam to Host Grand Onam Celebration in Jamshedpur

JAMSHEDPUR – The city’s Kerala Samajam prepares for a vibrant Onam celebration, showcasing the rich cultural traditions of Kerala.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the KSMS school premises in Golmuri.
Festivities will commence at 11:00 am, featuring a series of traditional performances.
The highlight will be the welcoming of King Mahabali, a central figure in Onam mythology.
A member dressed as the King will greet and bless attendees during the celebration.
Moreover, the event will showcase various cultural performances.
These include the graceful Thiruvathira dance and the energetic Kolkali.
Additionally, a depiction of a traditional Boat Race will add to the festive atmosphere.
Songs and games will further enhance the celebratory mood of the occasion.
The Kerala Samajam has planned an elaborate feast known as Ona Sadhya.
This Kerala-style banquet will be served on banana leaves, maintaining tradition.
Sunil Kumar, General Secretary of Kerala Samajam, shared details about the feast.
The menu boasts over 20 dishes, showcasing the diverse flavors of Kerala cuisine.
Attendees can savor traditional items like Parippu, Sambar, Rasam, and Avial.
Furthermore, the feast will include specialties such as Kaalan, Olan, and Elissery.
Various accompaniments like Mango Achar and Ginger curry will complement the main dishes.
The dessert section will feature Banana Payasam, a sweet kheer loved in Kerala.
Impressively, the organizers expect to cater to around 1,250 people during the event.
This grand celebration aims to bring together the Malayali community in Jamshedpur.
It also offers an opportunity for locals to experience Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.
