62-year-old’s grassroots efforts span three countries, showcasing dedication to environmental conservation.

RANCHI – Noted environmentalist Kaushal Kishore Jaiswal, hailing from Jharkhand, has been awarded an honorary doctorate of Philosophy by Maryland State University, USA, for his remarkable contribution to afforestation efforts.

The ceremony, held in New Delhi, recognized Jaiswal’s achievement of planting over 5 million saplings across India, Nepal, and Bhutan.

"This recognition fuels my commitment to continue greening our world," Jaiswal stated upon receiving the honor from Chancellor Dr. John L. Kalara and Vice Chancellor Dr. Soufi Nuvanu.

A Life Dedicated to Green Mission

Jaiswal’s journey as an environmentalist began in 1966:

1. Early Inspiration: At age 12, motivated by his father’s words about deforestation causing drought.

2. Consistent Effort: Over 52 years, planted 5.7 million saplings without government or private aid.

3. Wide Reach: His mission has covered 70 districts across 18 states in India, extending to Nepal and Bhutan.

"I used to distribute saplings to farmers in the weekly local markets," Jaiswal explained, highlighting his grassroots approach.

Community Recognition

Upon returning to Daltonganj, Jaiswal received a warm welcome:

– Government officials and dignitaries from Palamau district greeted him at the railway station.

– Family members joined in celebrating his international recognition.

During the Delhi ceremony, Jaiswal honored international guests Dr. Tanjir from Afghanistan and Dr. Pic Gaffney from Australia, inviting them to visit his birthplace for the inauguration of an Environmental Dharma Knowledge Temple.

The environmentalist’s wife and notable personalities from various fields attended the award ceremony, underscoring the broad impact of his work.

As Jaiswal continues his green mission, his story serves as an inspiration for grassroots environmental efforts and showcases the global recognition of local initiatives in combating climate change.
