Elephant Tramples Elderly Woman to Death in Chakulia
Incident highlights ongoing human-elephant conflict in Chakulia area.
An elderly woman was trampled to death by an elephant in the Chakulia area early Wednesday morning.
CHAKULIA – An elderly woman, Hiramani Mandi, aged 65, was fatally trampled by an elephant near her home in Chakulia.
The incident occurred around 5:30 AM when she went outside her house and encountered the elephant about 100 meters away.
Before she could react, the elephant attacked and crushed her.
She was rushed to the Chakulia Community Health Center in critical condition and later referred to MGM Hospital.
Despite receiving treatment, she succumbed to her injuries.
The local forest department has been informed of the incident, and compensation has been requested.
Her son reported that the area has been experiencing frequent elephant intrusions, causing fear among the villagers.
One local resident commented, “The constant threat from elephants has made our lives very stressful.”
The community is urging authorities to take measures to prevent further such incidents.
