Protest for District Status for Ghatsila Held Near Sub-Divisional Office
Demand for making Ghatsila a district intensifies with public demonstration.
Committee submits memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Sub-Divisional Officer.
GHATSHILA – In a demonstration led by Lakhan Mardi, the convener of the District Formation Struggle Committee, a protest was held near the Ghatsila sub-divisional office demanding district status for Ghatsila.
The committee submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand through the Sub-Divisional Officer of Ghatsila.
The program was conducted by Pradeep Sah (Pintu), and the vote of thanks was given by social worker Tapan Behera.
Lakhan Mardi stated that the demand for district status for Ghatsila has been a longstanding one among the residents.
He mentioned that various organizations and political parties have continuously campaigned for this cause, receiving repeated assurances but no concrete action.
Mardi emphasized that Ghatsila is a distinct region geographically and culturally within Jharkhand, with a unique history and character.
He pointed out that the local language and customs differ from other areas, and the region’s problems are also unique, justifying the need for district status.
He also noted that smaller and less populated areas have been granted district status while Ghatsila’s demand has been overlooked.
Mardi called for the immediate official declaration of Ghatsila as a district to fulfill a long-pending public aspiration.
He proposed that the new district should include blocks such as Dumaria, Ghurabandha, Musabani, Ghatsila, Dhalbhumgarh, Chakulia, and Baharagora, with Ghatsila and Baharagora forming the two sub-divisions.
Prominent attendees at the protest included Geeta Murmu, Budheshwar Mardi, Kaushik Kumar, Mantu Prajapati, Sujan Manna, Hemant Narayan Dev, Deepak Dandapat, Bablu Soren, and Satya Tiwari.
