Mango’s Harijan Basti Drowns in Neglect: Six-Month Sanitation Crisis in Jamshedpur

Residents decry municipal apathy as drainage issues plague community, sparking health concerns

Local BJP leader Vikas Singh intervenes, demands immediate action from Mango Municipal Corporation.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Harijan Basti in Daiguttu, Mango, has been grappling with severe sanitation issues for the past six months, with residents reporting no cleaning staff visits from the Mango Municipal Corporation.

The entire neighborhood has turned into a muddy quagmire due to uncleaned drains, disrupting daily life and access.

Local BJP leader Vikas Singh was called to the scene by frustrated residents to witness the dire situation firsthand.

Residents complained that the accumulation of water and mud has made the local Maa Mansa temple inaccessible for worship.

Children are unable to attend school due to waterlogging and mud, even after summer vacations have ended.

Health concerns are rising, with reports of diarrhea and vomiting among children in the area.

Local women alleged discriminatory treatment, claiming municipal workers say cleaning will be done "when time permits" because it’s a Harijan settlement.

Singh was shown how the main drain on Old Purulia Road has been blocked by local strongmen, diverting water flow towards Harijan Basti.

The BJP leader warned municipal officials to clean the area promptly and clear the obstruction in the main drain.

Singh threatened to organize a road blockade with locals if the situation isn’t addressed, aiming to "wake up the sleeping municipal corporation and district administration."

Key community members present included Pramod Ram, Mansa Ram, Panchu Kalindi, and several others supporting the cause.

This incident highlights ongoing issues of sanitation and alleged discrimination in Jamshedpur’s suburban areas.
