Severe Heatwave Grips Multiple Districts in Jharkhand, Monsoon Delayed

Daltonganj Records Highest Temperature at 46°C, Rain Expected in Some Areas

Several districts of Jharkhand, including Garhwa, Palamu, Ramgarh, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Jamtara, Deoghar, Giridih, Godda, Pakur, and Hazaribagh, are reeling under a severe heatwave, with light drizzle in some places adding to the discomfort of the people.

RANCHI – Jharkhand is currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with multiple districts recording soaring temperatures on Monday. Daltonganj recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at a scorching 46.0 degrees Celsius.

Light rain in some parts of the state further compounded the woes of the residents, as the humidity levels increased, making the weather more uncomfortable.

Jamshedpur recorded a maximum temperature of 40.0 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 29.2 degrees Celsius, while Sakela and West Singhbhum recorded temperatures of 41.5 degrees Celsius and 40.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Dr. Abhishek Anand, commenting on the monsoon situation, stated that although there is an alert for rain in many districts from June 17, the people of Jharkhand will have to wait longer for the monsoon to arrive.

The monsoon is expected to hit Bihar first within the next three to four days, after which it will enter Jharkhand, indicating that the state may have to wait until June 22 for the monsoon to set in.

The weather department has issued an orange alert for heatwave conditions in the northwestern parts of Jharkhand, including Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Koderma, Latehar, and Lohardaga, for Tuesday.

However, rain is expected in Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, and Sakela-Kharsawan, accompanied by wind speeds of 30-40 km per hour.

As Jharkhand grapples with the severe heatwave conditions, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the scorching sun.

The delay in the monsoon’s arrival has further heightened concerns, as the state eagerly awaits relief from the oppressive heat.
