Monsoon Weakens in Jharkhand, Full Coverage Expected by June 30

Rainfall deficit reaches 66% as southwest monsoon slowly advances across the state

East Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan districts await monsoon arrival amid rising temperatures.

RANCHI – Jharkhand is experiencing a weakened monsoon, with full coverage expected by the end of June.

Dr. Abhishek Anand of the Ranchi Meteorological Center reports that the southwest monsoon is advancing through Chaibasa, Pakur, and Sahebganj towards Bihar.

"Regions yet to receive monsoon rains should see its arrival by June 30," Dr. Anand stated.

This timeline includes East Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan districts, which are still awaiting monsoon onset.

A west-east trough extending from northwest Rajasthan to Manipur is currently crossing southern Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.

Meteorologists anticipate increased monsoon activity from June 30 onwards.

Scattered rainfall is expected in some districts during this transitional period.

Jharkhand has recorded a significant rainfall deficit so far this season:

– Actual rainfall (June 1-26): 51.7 mm

– Normal expected rainfall: 149.8 mm

– Deviation: -66%

Temperature readings on Tuesday showed Saraikela as the hottest at 40.1°C.

Jamshedpur recorded a maximum of 38.1°C and a minimum of 26.2°C.

Other notable temperatures included:

– Ranchi: 34.2°C

– Daltonganj: 39.8°C

– West Singhbhum: 35.7°C

The delayed and weakened monsoon raises concerns about potential impacts on agriculture and water resources in the region.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and may need to implement water management strategies if the deficit persists.
