Annapurna Devi Assumes Charge as Union Minister for Women and Child Development
Newly Appointed Minister Pledges to Advance Women and Child Welfare Initiatives
Annapurna Devi, the newly appointed Cabinet Minister, officially took charge of the Ministry of Women and Child Development on Tuesday.
RANCHI – Annapurna Devi has assumed her role as the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, expressing her enthusiasm and pride.
She stated on social media, "I am feeling excited and proud while taking charge as Union Minister of Women and Child Development. I will work towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of a developed India."
In her new role, Annapurna Devi emphasized that the past decade under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership has seen significant strides in women empowerment and child welfare.
She highlighted the various initiatives aimed at protecting and promoting childhood and women’s rights.
Annapurna Devi also mentioned meeting with former Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani, to seek guidance and insights for her new responsibilities.
Annapurna Devi’s political journey began in 1998, following the death of her husband.
She started her career with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and served multiple terms as an MLA and as a minister in Jharkhand.
She has been elected as an MP for the second time from the Koderma Lok Sabha seat.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she defeated Babulal Marandi of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) by 4.55 lakh votes.
In the most recent elections, she won against Vinod Kumar Singh of CPI (ML) by 3.77 lakh votes.
