Souryadipta Sarkar, a 13-year-old chess prodigy from Jamshedpur’s Sonari locality, emerged victorious in the Under-14 category at the prestigious 1st Jaipur Open Classical FIDE Rating Chess Tournament.
JAMSHEDPUR – Souryadipta Sarkar, a promising young chess player from Jamshedpur, achieved an impressive feat by clinching the top spot in the Under-14 category at the 1st Jaipur Open Classical FIDE Rating Chess Tournament.
The tournament, held from May 29 to June 2, 2024, showcased Sarkar’s exceptional skills on the chessboard.
Sarkar’s achievement in the tournament was truly impressive, considering the competitive field of 497 players from 27 states across the country.
A talented 13-year-old boy from Jamshedpur’s Sonari locality demonstrated his abilities by achieving an impressive score of 6.5 points throughout 9 rounds.
Sarkar’s impressive achievement was recognized with a prestigious trophy, bestowed upon him by the esteemed chief guest, along with a generous cash prize of Rs 2500.
His exceptional performance led to a top rank of 39 and a notable increase of 50 in his Elo rating.

The 1st Jaipur Open Classical FIDE Rating Chess Tournament was a thrilling event that followed FIDE rules and the FIDE Swiss system. Participants engaged in 9 rounds of highly competitive matches.
