Saryu Roy Cup Season 1 Cricket Tourney Set for Jamshedpur

16-Team Two-Day T8 Event Planned at Co-operative College Ground on April 11–12

JAMSHEDPUR — A two-day cricket tournament named the Saryu Roy Cup (Season 1) is scheduled to be held on April 11 and 12 at Co-operative College Ground in the city.

The official poster and T-shirt for the tournament were unveiled on Tuesday. Preparations for the event have been completed in full.

Ashutosh Roy, a trustee of the Swarnrekha Kshetra Vikas Trust, is serving as the patron of the cricket tournament. He told mediapersons that planning had been underway for several months. Moreover, he said the event was now taking concrete shape.

Hemant Pathak, Saheb Bagati, and Shambhu Nath are playing pivotal roles in organising the competition. The Co-operative College ground has been selected as the venue for the two-day event.

Each participating team will have to pay an entry fee of Rs 3,500. In addition, the cricket tourney will be restricted to a total of 16 teams only.

The winning team will be awarded Rs 31,000 in cash. On the other hand, the runner-up will take home Rs 21,000. All league matches will be played in the 8-over format. However, the final match will be played over 10 overs.

According to Ashutosh Roy, the matches will be governed by international rules throughout. External umpires will also be appointed to ensure fair play. MLA Saryu Roy, after whom the tournament is named, is a well-known independent legislator and prominent public figure in Jamshedpur.

This cricket competition is the first season of what organisers intend to be an annual event. Dharmendra Prasad, Pintu Singh, Karan Singh, and other dignitaries and organising committee members were present at Tuesday’s launch event. The Saryu Roy initiative is seen as part of his broader engagement with community activities in the city.
