GIRIDIH — A car carrying pilgrims returning from the Rajgir fair in Bihar overturned on a road near Baraabad in the Harodih police station area of Giridih district, injuring all its occupants. A major tragedy was, however, averted.
All the passengers in the vehicle were residents of the Chhotki Kharagdeeha area of Giridih and had been on their way home after attending the famous Rajgir Mela. According to eyewitnesses, the driver apparently dozed off briefly due to fatigue from the long journey. The vehicle lost its balance as a result and overturned on the side of the road.
The sound of the crash alerted nearby villagers, who rushed to the spot almost immediately. They pulled all the trapped passengers out of the overturned vehicle. Their prompt response ensured that no one was left stranded inside and helped prevent a potentially more serious outcome.
All the injured passengers were sent to a local health centre for treatment. Doctors said most of them had sustained minor injuries and their condition was reported to be out of danger.
Police reached the scene after being informed of the accident and began gathering details about the cause of the crash. Officers also worked to remove the vehicle from the roadside and restore normal traffic movement.
The road accident drew a crowd at the spot for some time. Local residents said long-distance travellers must take adequate rest during journeys, as drowsy driving has been the cause of several serious road accidents in the region.
The Rajgir Mela is a major annual religious fair held in Rajgir, Bihar, and draws large numbers of pilgrims from Jharkhand and neighbouring states every year. Giridih district shares a border with Bihar, and residents frequently travel to Rajgir for the fair. Road accidents involving pilgrims returning from such events are not uncommon in the region, particularly when drivers undertake long journeys without sufficient rest.
