Jamshedpur Set to Welcome Second Govt Medical College at Khasmahal Sadar Hospital

New Medical College to Enhance Healthcare Education and Infrastructure in Jharkhand

The East Singhbhum district is preparing to establish its second medical college within the Khasmahal Sadar Hospital premises, expanding the state’s medical education facilities.

JAMSHEDPUR – The East Singhbhum district is making plans to set up its second government medical college at the Khasmahal Sadar Hospital premises, thus enhancing the state’s medical education offerings.

The effort is a component of a larger strategy to enhance Sadar hospitals in different districts, such as Khunti, Bokaro, Sahibganj, Ramgarh, and Giridih, in order to accommodate medical colleges.

The medical college being planned at Khasmahal Sadar Hospital is set to provide MBBS courses, starting with 100 seats.

In February, the Jharkhand Health Department submitted a proposal to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for consideration.

The Health Secretary, Ajay Kumar Singh, is currently evaluating the infrastructure and facilities at Sadar hospitals to provide support for this expansion.

We need to conduct a comprehensive inspection of Jamshedpur Sadar Hospital in order to gather all the necessary information for the NMC and obtain the Letter of Permission (LOP) needed to establish the medical college.

At present, Jharkhand is home to several medical colleges located in Dhanbad, Ranchi, Dumka, Palamu, Hazaribagh, and MGM in Jamshedpur.

The establishment of medical colleges in Bokaro, Ramgarh, Sahibganj, Khunti, and Giridih is intended to cater to the educational requirements of students in the state.

In order to obtain a license for a medical college, a hospital must have at least 320 beds.

Efforts are being made to improve the infrastructure of Sadar hospitals in various districts, ensuring that they meet the required standards.

Efforts are being made to ensure that crucial facilities like blood banks, ICUs, dialysis centers, and oxygen plants are made available.

Proposals for the installation of CT scan and MRI machines have been submitted to the state headquarters.

Sadar Hospital, which started serving patients in January 2013 with an initial count of 48, now provides care to more than 700 individuals every day.

Notable achievements include the opening of a TB testing center in January 2017, the establishment of a blood bank in October 2019, and the expansion of services to include a children’s ward, ICU, dialysis center, and oxygen plant.
