Highly Anticipated RASCA Film Festival Kicks Off with Jury Screenings in Jamshedpur
Inaugural Event Highlights Santali Language and Tribal Culture
The RASCA Film Festival began on Monday at the Tribal Cultural Center in Sonari, featuring screenings of films selected for awards.
JAMSHEDPUR – The long-awaited RASCA Film Festival has finally begun, with the start of jury screenings for chosen films at the Tribal Cultural Center in Sonari.
The festival was kicked off by directors Suryasingh Besra, Rabindranath Murmu, Shankar Hembram, Ratan Besra, Kushal Hansda, Sagen Hansda, and Mansingh Majhi.
They honored Pandit Raghunath Murmu and began the jury screenings by ceremoniously pressing a button on a laptop.
On the opening day, three films were shown: "Galwan Bir" from Jamshedpur, "Love Love Love," and "Bindi Gak" from Baripada.
Surya Singh Besra highlighted the festival’s commitment to honoring Olguru Pandit Raghunath Murmu and its goal of fostering Santali language, literature, Olchiki script, and tribal culture.
Mansingh Majhi emphasized the flourishing Santali film industry, which sees the production of approximately 30 full-length movies and over 350 music videos each year.
He mentioned the importance of government support in raising the industry to the same level as Hindi and South Indian cinema.
Mansingh Majhi, Sagen Hansda, and Raviraj Murmu, along with the rest of the jury, will be assessing 14 carefully chosen films for the festival.
The screenings will be ongoing until May 31st at TCC, Sonari.
