Historic Selection for Santali Cinema at Mumbai International Film Festival

Aangen,’ a Santali short film from Jamshedpur, will premiere at the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival, marking a milestone for Santali cinema.

JAMSHEDPUR – ‘Aangen,’ a 12-minute Santali short film from Jamshedpur, has been selected for the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival.

The festival, set to take place from June 15 to 21, will also feature screenings in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Pune.

This is the first time a Santali film has been chosen for this prestigious event.

Directed and produced by Raviraj Murmu, an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, ‘Aangen’ will premiere on June 16.

The film was shot in tribal-dominated areas around Jamshedpur, including Karandih, Turamdih, Cholagoda, and Kinutola.

The cast includes Ramchandra Mardi, Saloni, Jitrai, and Phoolmani, with music composed by folk singer Durgaprasad Murmu and arranged by Nunaram.

Nishant Ram Teke served as the music director.

‘Aangen’ is a collaborative project under the banners of Dalma Motion Pictures and Sanvata Studio, two film production companies founded by five youths from Kolhan: Raviraj Murmu, Sanjay Kumar Tudu, Seral Murmu, Krishna Soren, and Rahul Biruli.

Raviraj Murmu shared that the film’s storyline explores the realms of Earth and Dev Lok.

It follows a shepherd from Earth who falls in love with a woman from Dev Lok, leading to a journey filled with divine intervention and earthly love.

The narrative promises captivating twists and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring an immersive experience for the audience.
