Tata Steel Unveils Nature Trail at Sidhgora, Transforming Wasteland into Urban Forest

New nature trail emphasizes biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

The project converts 11 acres of barren land into a lush eco-park with diverse attractions.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has inaugurated a new nature trail at Sidhgora, highlighting its commitment to biodiversity and sustainable development. The event saw T. V. Narendran, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Steel, as the Chief Guest.

A Revitalized Environment

The 11-acre nature trail has turned a previously barren area into a vibrant Urban Forest. The trail includes a 1-km walking track and features such as a gazebo, pond, aromatic and medicinal plantations, a zen garden, a yoga platform, and an amphitheater with a green lawn.

Additionally, a 200-meter stream running through the eco-park has been restored. The trail’s mini forest concept involves dense tree plantations, with over 60 native species, 14,000 tree saplings, and 5,000 shrubs.

Biodiversity Enhancement

The project preserved and incorporated 5,500 existing native trees and shrubs, boosting the area’s biodiversity. The Nature Trail transformed 7 acres of wasteland into a densely planted Urban Forest in its first phase, with an additional 4 acres set for transformation in phase two.

Previously, the area was a dumping ground for slag, construction waste, and municipal solid waste. Tata Steel’s initiative aligns with its Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, focusing on sustainability and biodiversity conservation.

The event was attended by key Tata Steel executives, including Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services; Rajiv Mangal, Vice President, Safety, Health & Sustainability; Atrayee Sanyal, Vice President, Human Resource Management; Samita Shah, Vice President, Corporate Finance, Treasury & Risk Management; Rituraj Sinha, Managing Director, Tata Steel UISL; Ujjal Chakraborti, Managing Director, JCAPCPL; and Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President, Tata Workers’ Union.
