Tata Steel Zoological Park Unveils New Enclosures on World Environment Day

Common Leopard and Striped Hyena Habitats Expanded, Painting Competition Held for Students

Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP) celebrated World Environment Day by inaugurating two new enclosures for the Common Leopard and Striped Hyena, enhancing the wildlife experience for visitors.

JAMSHEDPUR – The new enclosures, designed in accordance with the Central Zoo Authority guidelines, provide ample space for the animals to thrive.

The leopard enclosure spans an impressive 1200 square meters, while the hyena enclosure measures 100 square meters.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Ravi Ranjan, Regional Chief Conservator of Forests, Government of Jharkhand, and Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel and President of Tata Steel Zoological Society (TSZS).

Raghunath Pandey, President of TSZS Workers’ Union, Captain Amitabh, Honorary Secretary of TSZS, and Naim Akhtar, Deputy Director of TSZP, were also present at the event.

Dignitaries Plant Indigenous Saplings

As part of the celebrations, the dignitaries planted saplings of approximately 20 indigenous plant species near the newly constructed Hyena enclosure.

This initiative aims to promote the conservation of native flora and enhance the zoo’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Painting Competition Engages Students

TSZP also organized "Art in nature," a painting competition for students from schools and colleges, centered around this year’s World Environment Day theme, "Land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience."

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 126 students representing 11 schools, showcasing their artistic skills and environmental awareness.
