JDU adopts new election symbol for Jharkhand assembly polls

Key Points:

• Saryu Roy to use ‘Gas Cylinder’ symbol in Jamshedpur West

• Election Commission assigns symbol to JDU for Jharkhand polls

• Symbol transfer follows merger of JDU and Bharatiya Janatantra Morcha

JAMSHEDPUR – Veteran politician Saryu Roy gears up for the Jharkhand assembly elections with a familiar symbol.

The ‘Gas Cylinder’ will represent Roy in the Jamshedpur West constituency.

This symbol, previously used by Bharatiya Janatantra Morcha, now belongs to Janata Dal (United).

The Election Commission confirmed the symbol allocation on October 16, 2024.

Meanwhile, JDU’s traditional ‘Arrow’ symbol remains in use in Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur.

The ‘Gas Cylinder’ symbol holds significance for Roy from the 2019 elections.

Jasmeet Kaur, Under Secretary at the Election Commission, notified Jharkhand’s Chief Electoral Officer.

The symbol transfer follows the merger of JDU and Bharatiya Janatantra Morcha.

Moreover, this decision marks a strategic move for JDU in Jharkhand’s political landscape.

Roy’s candidacy with the familiar symbol may resonate with local voters.

"The ‘Gas Cylinder’ symbol represents our commitment to the people," a party spokesperson stated.

In addition, the symbol change highlights the evolving political alliances in the state.

The upcoming elections promise an intriguing contest in Jamshedpur West.

Furthermore, Roy’s campaign strategy may leverage the symbol’s recognition among constituents.

This development adds a unique dimension to Jharkhand’s electoral narrative.
