Jharkhand Police Prepares New Action Plan Post Lok Sabha Elections
Focus on Crime Control, Naxal Eradication, and Curbing Illegal Activities
Following the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections, the Jharkhand State Police has initiated the preparation of a new action plan to address law and order, crime control, and campaigns against Naxalites in the state.
RANCHI – A review meeting was held at the Police Headquarters auditorium, chaired by the Director General and Inspector General of Police, Jharkhand, with senior police officers from various regions and units in attendance.
The Director General of Police congratulated the police officers for conducting peaceful Lok Sabha elections in the state and discussed crucial topics such as law and order maintenance, warrant execution, investigation updates, crime control, monitoring of POCSO Act cases, illegal mining, drugs, and alcohol, among others.
Combating Naxalism and Identifying Maoist Hideouts
The meeting highlighted the significant reduction in Naxal-affected areas in recent times, praising the efforts of the state police and central forces.
The Director General of Police emphasized the need for a solid strategy and effective campaigns against the remaining Maoists, stressing the importance of gaining the confidence of local people and gathering accurate intelligence.
Jharkhand Police, in coordination with central forces, has been running planned campaigns against Naxalites and was directed to continue all-round action to eliminate them from the state.
Instructions were given to identify Maoist hideouts and take immediate action, along with reviewing the left-wing extremism scenario, confiscation of extremists’ properties, and announcing rewards against absconding Naxalite commanders.
Crime Control and Action Against Criminal Gangs
The Director General of Police stressed the need for strict action against organized criminal gangs, arresting absconding criminals, and speeding up the disposal of long-pending cases.
He directed the preparation of a list of criminal gangs and their members in all districts, ensuring the arrest of absconding criminals and keeping a watch on those lodged in jail.
Regional Deputy Inspectors General of Police were instructed to monitor the activities of criminals released on bail, take action under the CCA provisions, and crack down on members of inter-district and interstate criminal gangs.
Emphasis was placed on identifying repeat offenders and taking strict legal action against them, as well as registering their names in the tainted register.
Curbing Illegal Mining, Drugs, and Liquor
The Director General of Police directed a complete ban on organized illegal excavation of coal, iron, sand, and stone, and to take necessary action against those involved.
Instructions were given to trace criminals involved in the drug and illegal liquor networks, conduct continuous raids by the task force to stop illegal mining, and gather information on cases reported under the NDPS Act.
Police officers were directed to ensure compliance with the roadmap prepared for the prevention of illegal liquor and to train officers at the district level.
Emphasis on Speedy Disposal of Cases and Implementation of New Judicial Code
The meeting emphasized the speedy disposal of old pending cases and crimes against women, such as rape, POCSO, and harassment cases.
Awareness campaigns were suggested to eradicate evil practices like witch-hunting in rural areas.
The Director General of Police stressed the need for special training in view of the challenges faced in implementing the new Indian Judicial Code, set to be introduced from July 1.
The meeting was attended by senior police officials, including the Additional Director Generals of Police, Inspectors General of Police, and regional Deputy Inspectors General of Police, along with Senior Superintendents and Superintendents of Police from various districts.
