JAMSHEDPUR – A special train service from Badampahar to Puri via Tatanagar has been launched to accommodate devotees attending the Rath Yatra in Puri.
"This service ensures devotees can reach the celebrations conveniently," a South Eastern Railway official stated.
Odisha’s Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh flagged off the train on Saturday.
The train departed Badampahar at 6 AM, arriving at Tatanagar 15 minutes behind its 8:20 AM schedule.
"This is the first Rath Yatra special train connecting Tatanagar and Badampahar to Puri," the official noted.
The service will operate from July 6 to July 16, coinciding with the Rath Yatra festival period.
Hundreds of passengers boarded the inaugural journey, highlighting the demand for this service.
The return journey from Puri is scheduled to depart at 2:30 AM, reaching Badampahar at 6:15 PM.
This initiative demonstrates the railways’ efforts to support religious tourism in the region.
The special train service is expected to boost connectivity between Jharkhand, Odisha, and the holy city of Puri.
