Ramdas Soren to Replace Champai as Jharkhand Minister
Ghatsila MLA to take oath on Friday, assuming Higher Education and Water Resources portfolios
Ramdas Soren, Ghatsila legislator, has been chosen to succeed former Chief Minister Champai Soren in Jharkhand’s cabinet.
RANCHI – Chief Minister Hemant Soren has nominated Ramdas Soren, the Ghatsila MLA, to replace former minister Champai Soren in Jharkhand’s cabinet.
The oath-taking ceremony for Ramdas Soren is set for 11:00 AM on Friday.
Ramdas confirmed receiving a call from the Chief Minister’s office about his new responsibilities.
The 61-year-old legislator will assume charge of the Higher and Technical Education and Water Resources Ministries.
Champai Soren resigned from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and his ministerial position a day earlier.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren has formally requested the governor to administer the oath to Ramdas Soren.
The JMM selected Ramdas as Champai’s replacement due to his influence as a tribal leader in the Kolhan region.
Ramdas has been elected twice as the MLA from the Ghatsila Assembly constituency, in 2009 and 2019.
This ministerial appointment marks Ramdas’s first such position within the JMM.
Like his predecessor, Ramdas was closely associated with JMM supremo Shibu Soren during the Jharkhand movement.
Interestingly, as Ramdas takes his oath as state minister, Champai is expected to officially join the BJP.
The change in cabinet comes amidst political shifts in Jharkhand, with the JMM working to maintain its tribal leadership representation.
