Three Officials Suspended as Investigation Reveals Property Theft Worth ₹17.65 Lakh

JAMSHEDPUR – The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of South Eastern Railway has uncovered a significant case of railway material misappropriation, leading to the suspension of three officials and the initiation of criminal proceedings.
"This case highlights the importance of our routine checks and the swift action taken when discrepancies are found," stated an RPF spokesperson.
Discovery of Discrepancies
The issue came to light during a routine handover between two Inspectors.
Irregularities were noted in the distribution of UPS units and accessories procured in 2022.
The incoming Inspector promptly reported the discrepancies to RPF administration.
Investigation Findings
An enquiry by the Internal Vigilance Group (IVG) of RPF/S.E.R. confirmed the misappropriation.
The IVG report, dated June 20, 2024, implicated one Inspector, one Sub-Inspector, and one Head-Constable.
The estimated value of misappropriated railway property is approximately ₹17,65,456.
Actions Taken
The three implicated officials have been placed under suspension.
Departmental proceedings for major penalties have been initiated against them.
A criminal case under the RP(UP) Act has been registered at RPF Post, Garden Reach, Kharagpur Division.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges in safeguarding railway assets and the importance of internal vigilance mechanisms.
The case is likely to prompt a review of inventory management and oversight procedures within the South Eastern Railway.
