JNAC Continues Crackdown on Illegal Basement Shops in Jamshedpur, Implementing Court Orders

Sakchi’s Birenu Trade Center and Shatabdi Tower Witness Demolition, Senco Gold and Diamonds Faces Intervention

The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) continued its crackdown on alleged unauthorized basement constructions on Friday, taking decisive action by demolishing shops within the basement of Sakchi’s Birenu Trade Center, located at SNP Area Holding No. 76, in compliance with the Jharkhand High Court’s orders.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a resolute effort to curb unauthorized constructions, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) carried out a series of demolitions on Friday, targeting illegal shops operating within the basements of various commercial establishments in the city, following directives from the Jharkhand High Court.

The operation began at Sakchi’s Birenu Trade Center, situated at SNP Area Holding No. 76, where approximately 80 percent of the shops in the basement were razed to the ground.

JNAC officials plan to dismantle the remaining shops on Saturday, ensuring complete compliance with the court’s orders.

The demolition drive was initiated in response to a petition filed in the Jharkhand High Court by Ashok Kumar and others, challenging a notice issued by Jamshedpur Access.

During the court hearing on Thursday, Justice Anand Sen had directed the immediate demolition of shops within the basement of Sakchi SNP Area Holding No. 76 and sought a follow-up report by Friday.

Acting promptly upon the court’s directive, JNAC commenced the demolition process on Thursday evening, initially employing JCB machines.

However, due to access constraints, the team resorted to using hammers on the second day to complete the task.

The crackdown extended beyond Birenu Trade Center, with Shatabdi Tower in Sakchi also witnessing the demolition of basement shops.

Additionally, Senco Gold and Diamonds in Sakchi SNP Area faced intervention from JNAC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar, who ordered the cessation of commercial activities within their basement and instructed them to restore it to its designated purpose as a parking area.

Following an inspection, ongoing operations within the basement of Senco Gold and Diamonds, including an ice cream warehouse, were promptly halted.

The entire process was meticulously documented through videography to ensure transparency and accountability.

The JNAC’s resolute actions against unauthorized basement constructions and the misuse of designated parking spaces reflect the authorities’ commitment to upholding the law and ensuring compliance with court orders.

By targeting multiple establishments across Jamshedpur, the crackdown sends a strong message to property owners and businesses, emphasizing the need to adhere to approved building plans and maintain the integrity of public spaces.

As the demolition drive continues, it serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible urban development and the consequences of violating legal norms and court directives.
