The Tata Workers Union is gearing up for its election process, slated to begin in the second half of January 2024, as the current committee’s tenure concludes on February 21, 2024. The union is making internal preparations for the elections, with the top officials currently touring the Netherlands and expected to return on December 13th.
JAMSHEDPUR – The top three officials of the Tata Workers Union, currently on a tour of the Netherlands, are expected to return to the city on December 13.
Upon their return, it is anticipated that the atmosphere within the union will become increasingly focused on the upcoming elections.
Internal preparations for the election have already commenced, as per union sources.
The election process is scheduled to start after January 15, 2024, and is expected to be completed by February 15.
This schedule aligns with the union’s constitutional requirement to complete elections two months before the current committee’s tenure ends on February 21, 2024.
The union committee will convene to call for elections and obtain consent, following which the Union General Secretary will announce election-related details.
This will include setting the election date for the Returning Officer.
The Tata Workers Union comprises 214 committee members and 11 office bearers.
Shatrughan Rai, the outgoing Vice President, will not participate in the upcoming elections as he is retiring on January 31.
Several other committee members are also due to retire, potentially leading to an increased presence of NS grade members in the new committee.
Despite no conflicts among the top three officials of the union since the last elections, it remains to be seen if they will contest together in the forthcoming elections.
