JAMSHEDPUR – Two young lives were cut short in a tragic incident at Barabanki Dam.
Raine Cruz Toppo, 14, and Robin Simon John, 16, both residents of Birsa Nagar, were identified as the deceased.
The third companion, Nishant, miraculously survived the ordeal.
The incident occurred late Sunday evening when the trio had left their homes to ostensibly play football.
Instead, they made an unplanned trip to Barabanki Dam where the tragic accident occurred during a swim.
The MGM police have dispatched the bodies to MGM Medical College for post-mortem examinations.
Robin’s father, Ratan John, said the trio left home on Sunday evening claiming they were going to play football.
Nishant, who survived, alerted both families about the mishap, leading to a search operation conducted by MGM police and family members.
Efforts to locate the boys were initially unsuccessful, but a decline in the water level on Monday morning led to the discovery of the bodies.
The event was further tinged with sorrow as Sunday had been Raine’s birthday, and the trio had gone to celebrate.
Raine was a ninth-grader at LFS Telco School, and Robin was a tenth-grade student at Loyola Bistupur.
Raine’s father had passed away a few months ago, and his mother Kiran works as a nurse at Tata Main Hospital.
Robin’s father, Ratan, owns a business.
