Jal Satyagraha by Displaced Villagers at Chandil Dam, Seraikela

Tight Security for Jal Satyagraha at Chandil Dam; Thousands of Displaced Villagers Participate

Displaced villagers from Chandil Dam conduct Jal Satyagraha in protest of inadequate compensation and rehabilitation; tight security measures in place.

CHANDIL – Saraikela witnessed the Water Satyagraha of displaced villagers from Chandil Dam.

Tight security arrangements were enacted near the dam premises.

Thousands of women and men participated in the water satyagraha.

Adequate security measures were made around Chandil Dam regarding the Jal Satyagraha announced under the banner of Akhil Jharkhand Visthapit Adhikar Manch of Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

Hundreds of displaced people started water satyagraha at Patkum Swarnrekha river ghat in Ichagarh block.

Police personnel were deployed along with magistrates at various places.

Senior officers of the police administration monitored the situation.

Rakesh Ranjan Mahato, president of Akhil Jharkhand Visthapit Adhikar Manch, condemned the prevention of peaceful agitation, calling it a violation of constitutional rights.

The displaced were carrying out the agitation under the Manch’s banner, supporting their legitimate demands.

The planned water satyagraha at Chandil Dam was stopped by the police administration, he asked.

He further said that Jal Satyagraha is not an unconstitutional movement.

The displaced asked for cooperation in the movement and to be allowed to carry out their protest peacefully.

The lack of compensation and complete rehabilitation facility, even after 40 years of land acquisition, was criticized as a crime.

Questions were raised regarding the government and administration’s lack of action.
