Stray Elephant Spreads Panic in Rajnagar, Forest Department Inaction Questioned
Villagers in Rajnagar are terrified as a stray elephant roams for three days with the forest department yet to intervene effectively.
JAMSHEDPUR – A stray elephant separated from its herd has been sighted in the vicinity of Hansal, Rajnagar, inciting fear among the local inhabitants.
The pachyderm has been reported wandering in and around Rajnagar for the past three days.
Despite this, the Forest Department has not been successful in driving the animal away.
The elephant seems to be continuously changing its location.
Tragically, on the first day of its appearance last Wednesday, the animal crushed three people.
A 55-year-old farmer lost his life, and another farmer along with a youth suffered severe injuries.
Nevertheless, the forest department’s response to the situation has been criticized as lackadaisical.
The following day, the creature was spotted near the coastal areas of the Kharkai River, close to Itakudar and Asangi of Gamharia block.
Fortunately, there were no casualties on Thursday.
However, the elephant was seen again on Friday, moving towards Rajnagar.
It has been roaming a route from Hata (Jamshedpur) via Telaidih-Dangardiha-Hansal, causing panic among the villagers.
While the Forest Department has been accused of idle inaction, the villagers have taken it upon themselves to try and drive the elephant away.
