Anjani Soren Nominated for Mayurbhanj Lok Sabha Seat by JMM for Second Time
Soren to Compete Against BJP and BJD in a Politically Charged Race
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has officially nominated Anjani Soren, the daughter of JMM founder Shibu Soren and sister to former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This marks her second run for the Mayurbhanj constituency in Odisha.
RANCHI – Anjani Soren, a significant political figure linked to the founding family of JMM, will once again represent her party in the Lok Sabha elections from Mayurbhanj, facing stiff competition from both BJP’s Naba Charan Majhi and BJD’s Sudam Marandi, the latter a former JMM leader in Odisha.
This election sees a strategic shift by the BJP, which replaced the incumbent MP and Union Minister Vishweshwar Tudu with Majhi, heightening the electoral contest’s stakes.
In the 2019 elections, Anjani Soren was the third-place finisher with 135,552 votes, while BJP’s Bisheshwar Tudu won with 42.1 percent of the total votes, in a race notably absent a Congress candidate.
The political landscape around the Soren family has seen notable shifts, with Hemant Soren’s incarceration on land scam charges since January influencing familial political dynamics. This includes Sita Soren’s defection to BJP and Kalpana Soren’s new political role with JMM in the Gandey Assembly by-election.
Despite speculation, Kalpana Soren did not ascend to the chief ministerial post, which went to Champai Soren in a recent reshuffle.
