JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand bandh called by Olchiki Hul Baisi regarding its four-point demands impacted NH-33 and rural areas on Tuesday.
From early Tuesday morning, bandh supporters were seen protesting in different areas, enforcing closures.
Protesters set blockades and burned tyres in a show of resistance.
The effect of the bandh was particularly noticeable in rural regions.
The bandh also garnered the support of the Tribal outfits..
Armed with traditional weapons, bandh supporters blocked all routes into the city since morning, effectively halting all traffic.
As a result, long distance vehicles were stranded and the operation of long distance buses were impacted..
The primary demand of Olchiki Hul Baisi is the recognition of the Santali language as the first official language, the establishment of a separate Santali Academy, the initiation of printing and reading books in the Santali language from Olchiki script, and reinstating Santali teachers.
Bandh supporters claim their demands have been consistently overlooked by the Jharkhand government, leading them to resort to protests.
They have made it clear that their movement will persist until their demands are fulfilled.
