JAMSHEDPUR – A 19-year-old youth has been arrested by the Jamshedpur police after an illegal country-made pistol was recovered from a car in the Jugsalai police station area on the night of April 12.

City SP Kumar Shivashish said the Senior Superintendent of Police had received a tip-off that night.

The intelligence input indicated suspicious movements and a continuous flow of criminals on the road connecting Parvati Ghat to Garib Nawaz Colony in the Jugsalai area.

Acting on the information, a special raiding team was formed under the Jugsalai police station in-charge.

The team subsequently launched an intensive vehicle-checking drive along that route.

During the operation, a white Hyundai Verna car bearing registration number JH05AU8134 was intercepted and searched.

The search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one illegal 7.65mm country-made pistol, one magazine and one live cartridge.

From the spot, Mohammad Shahzada, a 19-year-old youth, was placed under arrest.

Police also seized an iPhone mobile phone from his possession.

A case has been registered against the accused at Jugsalai thana under Arms Act Sections 25(1-B)a, 26 and 25(1-B)e.

Further legal proceedings have been initiated against him.

The 7.65mm calibre is commonly associated with improvised or country-made firearms that are frequently used in organised crimes across Jharkhand.

Police are currently conducting a deeper investigation into the matter.

Investigators are trying to establish whether the arrested youth has any links to a criminal gang operating in the region.

Meanwhile, the Jamshedpur crime situation has seen a series of such weapon-related arrests in recent weeks.

The Jamshedpur SSP has been running targeted intelligence-based operations to check the movement of armed criminals across the city.
