Protest Blocks Roads, Disrupts Production in Gua Mining Belt

JAMSHEDPUR – A large protest demanding jobs halted mining activity in Gua after villagers blocked key routes and rejected management proposals.

Around 100 villagers launched the protest early Monday morning. They acted under the Munda-Manaki banner across 12 villages.

Moreover, the agitation began near 4 a.m. and intensified quickly. Protesters sealed major access routes to the mining zone.

They blocked roads at screening, zero point, and loading areas. Consequently, transport across the mining belt stopped entirely.

Meanwhile, buses carrying first-shift workers were halted midway. This disruption directly affected workforce movement and operations.

Officials fear production and dispatch will suffer major losses. However, exact figures are yet to be assessed.

Security forces reached the site soon after tensions escalated. CISF and Jharkhand Police attempted negotiations with protesters.

However, villagers refused to lift the blockade. They remained firm on their employment demands.

Later, company officials arrived for discussions with local representatives. The team included senior HR and CSR officials.

Moreover, management proposed monthly meetings with village leaders. They offered jobs to two or three persons per village.

However, protesters rejected the proposal outright. They insisted on jobs for 500 unemployed individuals.

One protester said the assurance must be in writing. “Without written commitment, we will not withdraw,” the protester stated.

Meanwhile, talks ended without agreement between both sides. The stalemate has kept operations fully suspended.

The protest site lies near Noamundi mining region. The area remains tense as agitation continues.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Further discussions may be held to resolve the issue.
