Tata Steel Foundation Kick-starts ‘Nityotsava’ – A Four-Day Classical Dance Workshop

Over 450 students are set to participate in the ‘Nityotsava’ dance workshop, organized by Tata Steel Foundation and Kala Udyan. This event is part of an effort to preserve and promote Indian classical dance forms.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) today inaugurated ‘Nityotsava,’ a four-day Indian classical dance workshop. Over 450 students will participate in the event, which runs from June 3-6, 2023, at Rabindra Bhavan in Sakchi.

The workshop, organized in association with Kala Udyan, a group committed to training youth in Indian classical dance and music, will provide training in four major Indian dance forms: Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Manipuri, and Odissi.

Dance performances by participants added sparkle to the inaugural ceremony.

During the opening ceremony, D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Raw Materials, Tata Steel, addressed the gathering. "We are privileged to be culturally so rich, and our roots are our identity. I would like to encourage all the participants to make the most of this workshop on Indian classical dance forms,” he said.

Jiten Topno, Head Urban Services, Tata Steel Foundation, echoed this sentiment. He said, "Classical dances of India inculcate discipline and focus in dancers. Tata Steel Foundation envisages that children of Jamshedpur taking up classical dance as their primary extracurricular activity will help them gain more focus and discipline in their lives.”

The Tata Steel Foundation has a long history of promoting and organizing classes and workshops for the community. As part of its mission to preserve and promote Indian classical dance forms and music, it has organized several competitions, festivals, and workshops every year. Nityotsav’ is one such initiative aimed at providing a platform for the youth of Jamshedpur to learn dance and music from experts across India.
