Tata Steel Foundation Brings CT Scan to Gumla District Hospital

Innovative Healthcare Facilities Now Accessible to 12 Lakh Residents

Tata Steel Foundation has enabled the installation of a CT scan machine and x-ray equipment at the district hospital in Gumla, Jharkhand, making advanced diagnostic facilities accessible to the local population for the first time.

GUMLA – Gumla district hospital has now got a CT Scan facility and the patients do not need to go to other centres for CT Scan any more.

The collaboration between Tata Steel Foundation and healthcare practitioners across the state has helped bring innovation to the remotest corners of Jharkhand, with implementations based on observations from baseline surveys conducted by internal teams to address challenges in aspirational districts like Gumla.

Dr. Anuj Bhatnagar, Head of Public Health at Tata Steel Foundation, emphasized the importance of such collaborations in understanding and addressing the needs emerging from rural areas.

The new CT scan machine and fixed and portable x-ray machines are expected to improve patient care and enhance the hospital’s ability to handle complex medical cases, benefiting nearly 12 lakh residents across 12 blocks in Gumla District.

The inauguration ceremony for the CT scan machine at Sadar Hospital, Gumla, took place on March 15, 2024, with Shri Bhushan Tirkey, Honourable MLA, Shri Karn Satyarthi, Deputy Commissioner of Gumla, and Dr. Anuj Bhatnagar of Tata Steel Foundation in attendance.

The installation of the CT scan machine is particularly significant as it is the first-of-its-kind in the entire district, eliminating the need for patients to travel long distances for CT scans and enabling faster and more accurate diagnoses for the local population.

Tata Steel Foundation has been consistently working to introduce innovative healthcare facilities in remote and rural areas of Jharkhand, with recent initiatives including the inauguration of three new Prasuti Pratikshalays (birth-waiting homes) under the Maternal and Neonatal Survival Initiative (MANSI).
