WORLD DESK- A prolonged US-Iran conflict has escalated after a fighter jet was shot down and rescue operations intensified while global concerns over navigation routes grew.
A US fighter aircraft was brought down over Iranian airspace on Friday. Consequently, Washington launched a rapid search and rescue mission.
Meanwhile, US special forces managed to recover one crew member. However, the second crew member remained unaccounted for.
In addition, another US Air Force aircraft reportedly went down later the same day. However, officials did not immediately confirm crew details.
Moreover, the ongoing conflict has significantly raised military stakes in the region. The White House, therefore, proposed a sharp rise in defence spending.
The proposed 2027 budget sought over 40 percent increase in military funding. If approved, this would mark a historic surge in recent US defence allocations.
On the other hand, Israel continued strikes in Lebanon’s southern city of Tyre. Several residents were reported injured in repeated attacks.
However, many locals refused evacuation orders despite escalating violence. They feared temporary relocation could turn into permanent displacement.
Israel stated that eliminating Hezbollah may require full occupation of Lebanon. This has further heightened regional instability concerns.
Meanwhile, India raised concerns over maritime disruptions in the region. It called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
India highlighted that it alone lost citizens in the affected waterway. The issue was raised during a UK-led multilateral meeting.
Moreover, over 60 countries attended the virtual discussions on the crisis. India emphasized the need for safe global shipping routes.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reiterated India’s diplomatic stance. He stressed that dialogue remained the only viable solution.
A knowledgeable source stated, “Escalation risks wider instability across regions.” However, diplomatic efforts have yet to yield results.
