Jamshedpur faces extreme heat wave; district administration issues advisory, urges precautions, ensures ORS availability, and shares safety tips.

Jamshedpur, April 19 – The city of Jamshedpur continues to experience extreme heat as temperatures soared beyond 43 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

In response to the scorching heat wave, the district administration has issued an advisory to residents, urging them to take precautions and avoid the heat as much as possible.

Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav has directed all primary health centers, community health centers, government hospitals, and schools to ensure the availability of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) to safeguard the health of district residents.

Free ORS counters have also been instructed to be set up in government hospitals.

The advisory issued by the district administration states that residents should avoid going out between 11 am and 3 pm unless absolutely necessary.

When venturing out, individuals are advised to cover themselves, drink plenty of water, wear light-colored, loose, cotton clothes, and cover their heads with cloth, caps, or umbrellas. Difficult tasks should be scheduled for cooler times of the day.

The advisory also includes tips to avoid heat stroke and hot winds:

  1. Avoid going out between 11 am and 3 pm.
  2. Cover yourself when going outside.
  3. Drink plenty of water to prevent heat stroke.
  4. Wear light-colored, loose, cotton clothes.
  5. Cover your head with a cloth, cap, or umbrella.
  6. Schedule difficult tasks for cooler times of the day.
  7. Use sunglasses and, if possible, carry a towel.
  8. Keep cattle indoors between 11 am and 4 pm.
  9. Recognize signs of heat stroke or heat rash, such as weakness, dizziness, headache, sweating, and seizures. Seek medical help if needed.
  10. Assist heat stroke victims by providing shade and loosening tight clothing.
  11. If a heat stroke victim’s condition does not improve within an hour, seek medical help.
  12. Workers should avoid direct sunlight from 11 am to 4 pm.
  13. Increase rest frequency and duration during outdoor activities.
  14. Consume hydrating beverages and foods such as salt-sugar solution, lemon-water, mango sherbet, buttermilk, lassi, watermelon, melon, and cucumber.

Administration officials said that with temperatures showing no signs of relenting, residents are advised to follow the guidelines provided in the advisory and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families from the dangerous heat wave.
