Jamshedpur – Tata Steel has been recognized as the 2023 Steel Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association for the sixth consecutive year.

The announcement was made at the worldsteel Special General Meeting of the Board of Members in Vienna, Austria.

Tata Steel is one of only two steel companies in the world to receive this recognition each year since the program’s inception in 2018.

This prestigious award highlights Tata Steel’s commitment to sustainability and acknowledges its position as a world-class steel producer.

T.V. Narendran, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Steel, emphasized the company’s belief in sustainability as both a moral imperative and a business opportunity.

The Steel Sustainability Champions recognition is based on evaluations of data provided on various sustainability indicators, such as material efficiency, environmental management systems, lost time injury frequency rate, employee training, investments in new processes and products, and economic value distributed.

Companies are also required to provide Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data to worldsteel’s data collection program.

Tata Steel has received numerous accolades for its sustainability efforts, including being named the 2022 ‘Supplier Engagement Leader’ by CDP, a global environmental non-profit charity.

Additionally, the company’s Noamundi and Joda East Iron Mines received a 5-Star rating for sustainable development for 2021-22 from the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM).
