Plastic-Free Day Spotlight: Upendra Pandey’s Polythene Donate Campaign

East Singhbhum’s Indian Human Rights Association shines a light on Upendra Pandey’s Polythene Donate campaign on International Plastic Free Day, emphasizing plastic-free living and tree planting.

JAMSHEDPUR – On International Plastic Free Day, the Indian Human Rights Association East Singhbhum celebrated a notable campaigner for a plastic-free environment.

This event was led by District President Mr. SN Pal and District Deputy Patron Anand Verma, and the program’s focus was Ramgarh resident, Upendra Pandey.

Since 2013, Pandey has committed himself to address the issue of plastic through his Polythene Donate campaign. This campaign commenced in Ramgarh, but Pandey has visions of expanding it not just in Jharkhand, but across India.

To understand the scope of Pandey’s initiatives and the projects he has undertaken, one can Google “Polythene Donate”.

Pandey’s ongoing campaign involves school children pledging to stop using plastic. The hope is that they will spearhead a plastic-free movement beginning from their homes, contributing to cleaner districts, states, and eventually, the country.

In the coming months, awareness programs and street plays will be conducted in all the schools and colleges of East Singhbhum, as well as at mall and square intersections.

The goal is to inform people about the environmental harm caused by plastic. The Association believes that it is everyone’s duty, not just the government’s, to strive towards a healthier environment for future generations.

The Association encouraged everyone to participate in the campaign and plant more trees to effect a change in the environment.

Deforestation leading to rising heat and water pollution were highlighted as pressing issues, and the planting and nurturing of trees were underscored as vital for earth’s conservation.

Pandey, who lives with his wife in Ramgarh’s district headquarters, has tirelessly worked for a plastic-free Ramgarh for nine years.
