BJP workers face lathicharge, tear gas, water cannon during Secretariat gherao programme in Ranchi
Ranchi: BJP workers and supporters were lathicharged in the capital city of Jharkhand when they arrived there to gherao the state secretariat according to their programme as announced beforehand.
In Ranchi, thousands of BJP workers came on Tuesday to protest against the employment policy and corruption responding to the calls of their state unit. However, in Ranchi, they were met with lathi charges, tear gas, and water cannons from the administration.
MP Sanjay Seth was also injured in the lathi charge.
The police were already on alert mode as BJP workers planned to lay siege to the Jharkhand Secretariat located at the Project Building in Ranchi.
Tear gas was used to stop the workers, and water cannons were also used.
Lathis were also used against the BJP protestors.
MP Sanjay Seth was among the injured, and a journalist was also injured during the incident. The police arrested BJP MLA Sameer Oraon too.
The BJP had called upon party workers from all over the state to gherao the secretariat against the Hemant Soren government.
BJP state in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Laxmikant Vajpayee participated in the secretariat gherao programme, along with State President Deepak Prakash, BJP Legislature Party leader Babulal Marandi, former Chief Minister Raghubar Das, and other party MPs and MLAs.
The protest was staged to highlight the Soren government’s failure on every front, including unfulfilled election promises and worsening law and order.
The protestors accused the government of resorting to appeasement.
The police detained 20 protesters during the protests, which saw more than 100 BJP workers march to the state secretariat in protest against the government.
