Social outfits take to streets against state govt’s language policy

Hemant Soren Govt’s decision to exclude Bhojpuri, Magahi and Angika from list of regional languages evokes scathing criticism

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand government’s language policy and its decision to exclude Bhojpuri, Magahi and Angika from the list of regional languages in several districts has come for a scathing criticism from different linguistic communities as well as political organisations.

A number of opposition leaders and political and social organizations have also taken to the streets to oppose the Hemant government’s language policy in Jharkhand.

On Sunday, Yogi Youth Brigade protested strongly against the removal of Bhojpuri, Magahi and Angika from the list of regional languages andburning the effigy of the state government and health minister Banna Gupta at the Sakchi roundabout in Jamshedpur.

The members of the brigade said that as part of a larger conspiracy, the state government is excluding Bhojpuri, Magahi and Angika from the list of regional languages of the state.

They said that if the government does not withdraw its decision, the opposition to the government and its ministers as well as the MLAs of the ruling coalition will continue.
