CSIR-NML Skill Initiative program inaugurated, 250 delegates attend virtual event

Jamshedpur: Under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative program which is a national program on skill development initiated by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi a training program is being organised by CSIR- National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur in the month of June-July 2021. This is an online industrial R&D training program and was titled as “Materials and Metallurgical Engineering”.

This is a two-month training program which will be delivered virtually and is aimed to give training and exposure to students of graduate engineering colleges to enhance their industry oriented skills thus improving their employability. The training course has been designed to clarify the theoretical concepts of materials and metallurgical engineering and is expected to improve the competency level of the participants. The training schedule also includes a session to address leadership and professional skills to prepare the participants for the entire program.

The inaugural program was held on the first day on June 03, 2021 which started at 10.30 am with the welcome address by Dr. Indranil Chattoraj, Director, CSIR-NML. Dr. Chattoraj gave a brief idea about the world class research facilities available at CSIR-NML and invited the participants to visit the laboratory when the situation improves and the country overcomes the Covid 19 pandemic.

This was followed by a speech by Dr. Mita Tarafder, Head, KRIT Division of CSIR-NML about the skill development program. She said that the objective of organizing skill trainings every year since 2016 is to standardise the training programs and narrated the skill training programs conducted every year by CSIR-NML in an attempt to fill the skill gap that exists in the youth of India.

She mentioned that attempt has been made by her team to make the entire program interesting and interactive by including a few quiz sessions and encouraged the attendees to come forward and participate as much as possible. She concluded her speech by explaining the certification requirements that each participant is expected to fulfill to acquire the certificate at the end of the program.

The online inaugural event was attended by more than 250 people including participants from institutes and industry as well. At the end of the program vote of thanks was extended by Dr. Sanghita Mridha, the joint coordinator of the training program.
