Jamshedpur Schools Face RTE Violation Allegations

Private Schools in Bistupur Scrutinized for Admission Interviews

Allegations have arisen against Bistupur’s private schools, including Loyola and St. Mary’s, for conducting admission interviews, potentially violating the RTE Act.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Jamshedpur Abhibhavak Sangh has raised serious concerns about private schools, particularly Loyola School and St. Mary’s School in Bistupur, using interviews in their admission process for general category children.

Dr. Umesh Kumar, President of the Jamshedpur Parents Association, has submitted a formal complaint to the District Education Superintendent, highlighting the alleged breach of RTE-2009.

The complaint emphasizes the need to stop interviews for entry class admissions in all Jamshedpur schools, including Loyola and St. Mary’s School, to ensure fairness and transparency.

This move comes in response to these schools allegedly conducting interviews to evaluate literacy skills, which is viewed as a potential violation of RTE provisions.

The association’s complaint to the District Education Officer demands an immediate ban on such interviews, citing their illegality under the RTE Act.

They reference Section 13(1) of the RTE Act, which forbids schools from collecting fees or imposing financial burdens during admissions.

Additionally, Section 13(2)(b) of the RTE-2009 is cited, warning of fines between Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 for imposing a monitoring fee, which could encompass the interview practice.

The association’s action aims to ensure adherence to RTE-2009 guidelines, advocating for equitable, transparent, and unbiased admission processes across Jamshedpur schools.
