Key Points:
• Automatic theft alert from SBI security system prompted immediate police response
• Police and SDPO conducted extensive checks at bank branches and nearby locations
• Investigation revealed the alert was triggered by a technical issue in the security system
RAMGARH – Panic briefly gripped Ramgarh on Friday after the Officer-in-Charge of Ramgarh Police Station received an alert indicating a possible theft at a State Bank of India (SBI) branch. Acting swiftly, police teams rushed to the bank and launched an investigation. However, the alert was later found to have been triggered by a technical glitch rather than any criminal activity.
According to officials, the alert was generated automatically by SBI’s security system and sent to registered mobile numbers, including that of the police station in-charge. Considering the seriousness of the message, police immediately moved to the location, while Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Alok Ranjan also reached the scene.
Police covered nearly two kilometers in about nine minutes and began a thorough inspection of the bank premises and surrounding areas. As a precautionary measure, other sensitive commercial establishments in the town were also verified.
During the investigation, it was discovered that a team of experts was working on the bank’s security system at the SBI Main Road branch in Ramgarh. While troubleshooting a technical issue, the burglary alarm was accidentally activated, causing automated alerts to be sent to the numbers registered in the system.
Police also inspected the SBI commercial branch located in Bijulia and checked nearby ATMs, jewellery stores, and other business establishments. No signs of theft, break-in, or any criminal activity were found during the verification process.
SDPO Alok Ranjan said banks use multiple automated security systems, including fire alarms and burglary alarms, to ensure safety. These systems are designed to automatically notify authorities in case of a suspected security breach or unauthorized entry.
He added that the alarm was triggered during technical maintenance work and that the subsequent police response was part of standard security protocol. The investigation confirmed that all locations were secure and normal.
Although the incident turned out to be a false alarm caused by a technical malfunction, it highlighted the prompt response and preparedness of the Ramgarh Police. Their quick action and comprehensive verification exercise drew attention and appreciation.
