BOKARO – Police in Bokaro district carried out a major late-night raid against illegal liquor trade in the Balidih police station area on Friday, recovering a large quantity of English liquor and beer from a line hotel and an adjacent general store near a railway crossing, triggering panic among locals.
Acting on a tip-off that liquor was being sold illegally from a line hotel near the railway gate, senior officers ordered the immediate formation of a special raiding party. The team moved without delay and simultaneously raided Amar Line Hotel and the adjoining Sumitra General Store, both located close to the railway crossing.
During the operation, police recovered 264 bottles of various brands of English liquor and 101 bottles and cans of beer from the two premises. However, when officers demanded valid documents for the liquor stock, neither of the operators was able to produce any papers.
Police arrested Avinash Singh, the manager of Amar Line Hotel, and Suraj Kumar, the owner of Sumitra General Store. Both were taken into custody and were being questioned. Meanwhile, investigators were working to establish how long the illegal network had been running and who else might be connected to it.
All the seized liquor was taken into police possession. In addition, further legal proceedings and investigation in the case were continuing. Headquarter DSP Bokaro Pawan Kumar confirmed the operation. The illegal trade bust was being described as a significant success for the police in their ongoing campaign against unlicensed liquor businesses in the district.
