JAMSHEDPUR – Thousands of litres of expired beer flooded roads in Hazaribagh during a large-scale destruction drive by the excise department.
Authorities carried out the disposal in the Chanho area under strict supervision. Meanwhile, nearly 3600 cartons of expired beer were crushed.
However, heavy machinery like rollers and bulldozers was used. As a result, beer flowed across roads like water.
Moreover, the spilled liquid spread into surrounding soil quickly. The unusual visuals from the site soon went viral online.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed the stock remained unsold for months. It had been stored for over six months in warehouses.
However, regulations require destruction after expiry. Therefore, the department initiated the disposal process.
On the other hand, officials pointed to overproduction as a major cause. Demand did not match supply in the market.
Moreover, Assistant Commissioner Sunil Kumar Chaudhary explained the issue. He said excess production often leads to stock expiration.
“Companies produce beyond demand, causing unsold inventory,” a department source stated. “Expired stock must be destroyed under rules.”
In contrast, such incidents also reveal inefficiencies in supply planning. It highlights gaps between production and consumption patterns.
Meanwhile, similar actions have been reported in Ranchi and nearby districts earlier. These operations aim to prevent illegal sale of expired liquor.
